May 14th - May 18th

What a great way to kick off the middle of the month! We started off the week with a visit from a K-9 Police Dog! Back in March Officer Williams told the children if they memorized their address that he would try and get a police pup to come and visit. Well all of the children worked very hard to learn and memorize their addresses, and so Officer Williams came to BASE with a few colleagues- one of which was a K9 Police Dog! The preschoolers really enjoyed seeing the dog and learning about the importance of a dogs keen sense of smell and how they are a vital part of the police department. What a wonderful visit!

On Tuesday we got to celebrate National Chocolate Chip day! Together as a class they made chocolate chip cookies! The kids enjoyed taking turns adding ingredients and mixing the dough, but most of all they enjoyed getting to eat the chocolatey treat for afternoon snack- yum!

In keeping with May’s ‘Ocean’ theme, we have been working hard to fill that board in the hall. This week we worked on lobsters using hand and foot prints. The kids got a giggle when Ms. Rosa painted the bottoms of their feet! We also worked on paper aquariums where the children got to color in fish stencils! We have been reading lots of sea creature books and are learning a lot about all of the different types of animals that live in the sea. Ms. Maggie Cate used all of the milk tops we collected to write letters so that the children could use the different colors to spell their names. They also enjoyed spelling other words with the colorful tops, it sure is fun to learn! Thanks for the milk tops!

We ended the week with a 'Chicka Chicka Boom Boom' afternoon! Ms. Rosa read the book to the children and then they all got to make their own Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees! The kids had a blast cutting and pasting their trees, but most of all they loved decorating their trees with sticky foam letters! They had so much fun talking about the letters as they placed them on and around their trees. Our tigers did a great job and had so much fun in the process :) What a great ending to a wonderful week!

May 7th - May 11th

What a wonderful week! Our tigers have been very busy learning all about the amazing creatures that live in the sea! Last week they worked on lots of crafts and art projects to create sea animals to display on our “Sea” board in the hall. They constructed fish and crabs out of paper plates, and even turned CD’s into fish by decorating them with sequins- talk about using their imaginations! The children had lots of fun personalizing their sea creatures and got some great fine motor skills exercise to boot!

In keeping with our ‘Ocean’ theme, the children got to have a boat race! They cut sails out of construction paper and with Ms. Maggie Cate and Ms. Rosa’s help they created little ice cube boats! The weather was perfect for an outdoor race, and the children had a blast watching their boats sailing in the water!

Last week our Tiger’s were hard at work putting together their Mother’s Days gifts. The kids were so excited to surprise their Mom’s on their special day :) They have also been hard at work practicing for their performance for graduation which will take place on Wednesday, May 30th at 6pm at the Braintree Town Hall. Get ready for a wonderful show!

April 30th - May 4th

May is off to a wonderful start.  Our theme is the Ocean and we are talking about all the wonderful creatures that live in it.  The children have been using their imagination and having the trains and cars bring them to the beach!  They have been building “Sand castles” with cloud dough and turning play dough into octopuses!  I LOVED hearing “count his legs Ms. Maggie Cate 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.. WAIT don’t look I have to add one more!”  They absorb what we are teaching so quickly.  Ask your child how an octopus moves through the ocean.

The new spaghetti play has become very popular.  The children are manipulating the cooked spaghetti to make letters in their names.
The kids also made shakers for Cinco de Mayo and decorate them in brightly colored tissue paper.  We listened to some Mexican music and ate Salsa, guacamole and tortilla chips that some of you wonderful parents brought in for our party!!!  There was a parade that came through our room and then preschool 1 had a shaker parade through the building too!  It was a great end to the week.

Last month the kids made caterpillars and then wrapped them in a cocoon.  They waited and waited to see what would happen, last week the children opened up their chrysalises and there were BUTTERFLIES!!!  It was adorable to see the surprise on their faces. There are some pictures below.  My favorite is when they showed Ms. Rosa on the way to their cubbies.

So despite the weather, the children had a WONDERFUL week and May  is looking bright in Preschool 1.

Saying Goodbye to April – Bugs and Life Cycle Month

Time  is flying by so fast!  Monday is our last day of the Theme Bugs and Life Cycle for the month of April.  The children have learned so much.  We have had the joy of watching tiny caterpillars eat and eat and eat till they were nice and fat and cocooned
themselves.  Once the hatched Ms. Megan brought the box outside and helped the kids set the butterflies free.  One of our butterflies decided it wasn’t ready to leave and landed on the playground.  The kids gathered around and watched the butterfly slowly open and close its wings for a few minutes before it took off once again and the kids all waved goodbye.

The children made fireflies in a jar last week.  The kids came in the next day and told us how awesome their fireflies in a jar lit there room all night!  We also made ladybugs and the kids counted how many spots their ladybug had.  Also you can look at the windows in the Preschool 1 room and see the sun shine through the beautiful butterflies that the tigers class made!

The children saw a groundhog on the other side of our fence. It wasn’t very shy and they watched him munch on the grass and sniff
around the area.  There are some pictures up and if you look closely you can see the brown little ball of fur!

May 1st starts the Ocean theme!!  I can’t wait to share with you all that we learn!

WELCOME BACK FROM VACATION!!

Our week is off to a wonderful start!  First thing Monday morning we found that one of our caterpillars had become a butterfly. We QUICKLY ran down to the preschool rooms and asked the butterfly expert Ms. Lindsey to help us.  The children watched the butterfly while Ms. Lindsey worked her magic making us a butterfly house.  The butterfly was transferred successfully and the children can peek in the butterfly house to see it!  THANK YOU MS LINDSEY!! Grace and Aidan each gave the butterfly one of their grapes at lunch.  The butterfly’s long black tongue came out and the kids could see it drink from the grape!

Today Erica’s sister came in to read to us!  The kids did a great job listening as Shauna held their attention while she read to them. Erica and her sister share a special reading time every day.  Their mom shared this with us on our “leave a message” page.  We would love to hear from others if there is a special time in your home that you read with your kids.

Vacation Week!

Vacation week was wonderful!  The weather was beautiful and we spent some time on our beautiful newly spruced up playground!  THANKS Ms. Alysa & Ms. Meri!  The playground got new mulch for the climber area, new rocks for the ground and new sand for the sandbox!  The sandbox was very popular this week.

There were new toys donated by some of the preschool three parents recently and the Bears shared with preschool 1.  THANKS BEARS ROOM!  The children played ring toss outside as well as a super slide game.  The super slider game promotes teamwork.  The children really had to work together to keep the game going. There was also lots of wonderful sharing!

Inside we played some dancing games, got messy with shaving cream, manipulated play dough and experimented with straws.  The kids
had fun blowing pom poms across lines, which were made with tape on the table, and landing the pom poms into cups. It took some time but the children did a great job learning how to blow through the straws and get the pom pom to go in the direction they wanted them to.

We also had some great volunteer parent readers come in this week!  Logan’s mom, David’s mom, Ryan’s and Danny’s mom all took time out of their busy schedule to share their love of reading with the class.  The children LOVE story time and are really excited when someone special comes in to read to them. We were very lucky to have so many volunteers recently.   Thank you so much for reading to us!!

The classroom caterpillars have formed chrysalises and the children are excited to see them become butterflies!!  If you would like to see them just ask your child!  They would love to tell you about them and their life cycle!

Surprise Visit!

To celebrate spring baby animals came to visit the preschoolers.  There were piglets, baby goats, chicks and kittens.  The children got to pet and hold these animals.  Some preschoolers held their kittens close and didn’t care to see the other animals up close.  Other preschoolers saw each animal and spent time at each station.  It was a joy to see how gentle the kids were with the animals and how they lit up with each discovery!

April 9th, 2012
As well as our wonderful Bugs and Life Cycle we are putting and emphasis on READING this month.  Reading is SO important to kids.  It has so many benefits and it’s a wonderful way to bond with the kids.  It’s great to encourage reading outside of books as well!  Throughout a typical day there are so many opportunities for kids to recognize words or phrases.  You can challenge/help your children by asking them about billboards, newspapers, cereal boxes, or storefront signs. This will also show the kids reading is part of everyday life not just books and papers.   They MIGHT surprise YOU with all that they already know!!

Mr. Smith came to read to the class Monday morning.  He was wonderful!  The kids attentively listened to “The Lion King” book while eating their morning snack.  They were still talking about Simba and Mustafa later in the day!  I heard one child say “Remember the Hyenas?!”  While we were on the playground.   It was great for the kids to hear someone besides the teachers read a story to them.  Thank you for sharing your love for reading Mr. Smith!!!

Today was also NAME YOURSELF DAY!!  They had SO much fun giving themselves new names!

Here are our Wonderful new names!!
Grace – Bella
Jason –  Ava
Danny – Abby
Adam – Gill Grunt
Erica – Devyn
Logan- Fire truck
Julia –  Repunzel
Jelani – Lightning McQueen
Nick – Menolie
Aiden – Mason/ Josh
Aidan – Batman
Valery – Mama
Ryan – Fire Truck
Gabriella – Coo Coo Nut Head
Avalina – light lite / Night light
Sawyer – Racecar
David – Ambulance
Gabriel – Ray

It was fantastic seeing the kids use their imagination in changing their names.  It was fascinating for us TEACHERS to see the kids react to us using their new names and hear their giggles as they recalled and used their new names on each other.

Please feel free to write on our board about how you share your love of reading with your children!

EGGcellent!!

We read a book this week about an egg decorating competition that the Easter Bunny held to find “the Greatest Egg”.  The kids talked about what THEIR Greatest Egg would look like and then…The children dyed Easter Eggs!!  They had small paint brushes, egg dye and a great imagination.  The eggs came out wonderful and the kids loved it!

Mrs. Fredette came to the classroom Friday and spoke to the children about being a pharmacist!
First she asked the kids what they thought a pharmacist does, we all got a good laugh when the kids BRILLANTLY answered “Milk cows and pigs!!”.  “FARMacisit” get it?  Haha

Mrs. Fredette told the children how she is educated in Medicine and that her work in the hospital the doctors and nurses come to her with questions about medicine and what is the right dose to give to patients or other questions. Mrs. Fredette carries a calculator in her pocket to help calculate how much medicine the doctors should give someone in relation to their age/weight.  She went over different types of medications: liquid, pills, inhalers.  She also told the kids that some medicines are taken to help someone feel better if they are sick, or some are taken to KEEP people healthy.

She held the children’s attention as she stressed that each person’s medicine is different and you should NEVER take anyone else’s.   Also she showed the children pictures of how medicine can sometime look like candy so the children should never ever pick up anything off the floor or eat anything they find without asking an adult.

Each child was sent home with an information packet from Mrs. Fredette in more detail of what the kids learned on Friday.  Attached to the paper was a medicine dispenser.  YOU can ask your child why it is SOO important to use the medicine dispenser! They will know why!!!

CUPCAKE HAPPINESS!
The class read “Walter the Baker” last week and thought up all the different kinds of things a baker makes. Cupcakes were the top of the list for the kid’s favorites.  So Ms. Rachel brought in cupcakes made by her baker husband Mr. Chris!  The kids were SO EXCITED!  The children were given frosting and sprinkles to decorate their cupcake.  They even had special rings to top off their cupcakes!  It was a wonderful mess that the kids really enjoyed.  :)

WE MADE PLAY DOUGH!
The kids whipped up a batch of play dough last week.  They mixed all the ingredients together and Mr. Rosa cooked it for us!  WE CANT WAIT to play with it!
Here is a link that has a few different play dough recipes you and your child can try at home!

Mr. Atkinson came into the classroom Wednesday to talk to our class about being a Vice Principal.  He told all the kids about how the students at his school don’t eat at their desks for lunch because they have a big room for it called the cafeteria where the kids can buy lunch or bring their lunch.

He told the kids about all the busses that his school has.  The big busses bring the kids to school as well as field trips!  Mr. Atkinson used to be a Math teacher; he did some addition with the class.  He also told the children the importance of listening and following the rules.  Most of the time the children are great listeners, but SOMETIMES a “not a good listener” has to go to the Vice Principals office.  In the office the Vice Principal will to talk to them and remind them of the rules.  Occasionally the students’ mommy or daddy has to be called to pick them up.

Mr. Atkinson gave each of the kids stickers!   The children really enjoyed his visit.  They are still talking about big school busses, cafeterias, field trips to boats and they are playing school.  Before we all know it the tigers will be in “big kid school”.  I have asked them all to stay small and not grow up.  A few have said they won’t… but I think they’re fibbing!!!

We miss the weather from last week!!   Where did the shining sun and all its warmth go?
Last week the kids REALLY enjoyed playing outside.   When it was time to line up for our outdoor play I asked the kids to get  in line one child said to me “wait! You didn’t ask us to get our coats”, when I  told the student that they didn’t have to wear coats he replied with “is this a
joke?” it was really cute.  We  really confused them today when it was chilly and I asked them to get their  coats AND hats!!  This week is  supposed to be chilly so we should all go BACK to the attic and grab those warm coats and hats!  Yuck!

Last week the kids had a lot of fun outside and inside.  Outside, our future architects built sand castles, our future engineers worked with manipulating trucks and all around our students built their friendships and shared in activities like bubble blowing, tracing with ice cubes, and painting with Jell-O.

Today we did a cool free art project.  There were pieces of drawing paper taped UNDER the table. We encouraged the children to lie on their backs and draw a picture under the table.  It worked the kid’s imagination as well as their Spatial/ Bodily-Kinesthetics, although they didn’t know it! Ha-ha!
Under the table was just a start, “U” week is now Under way!

Mr. Wilson our community Subway/Train helper.

Picture
Mr. Wilson came into the class on Wednesday!  He talked about driving the train.  The children LOVED seeing the key that starts the train, the American Flag on his uniform and the HUGE map that shows all of the train and bus routes.  Mr. Wilson explained the switches that help the train if it breaks down and about the special snow plow that the train has for the snow in the winter months.

Mr. & Mrs. Wilson made coloring books for all of the children to take home and bought them all crayons!  In addition to the coloring books Mr. Wilson gave each child their own Charlie card and a puzzle!!  Mr. Wilson left the preschool room with the BIG map and the kids have been pretending where they are going on the train!  So next time you are on the red line the children will be able to tell you ALL about it!

Until then we’re using our imagination and we’re on the TRAIN in Preschool 1.

Shaving cream!!!
The Tiger classroom smelled really good when we did our shaving cream
table!  Each child got a pile of shaving cream.  Everyone picked
colors that they would like to play with and mix. The children guessed what colors they would make by mixing different colors together.  Everyone practiced writing letters with their finger or pipe cleaners in the shaving cream. We can’t wait to play with shaving cream again.   :)

Preschool 1 tiger’s are very thankful!  We received cream of tartar, corn syrup, peat moss pots and soil from the children’s parents!  The Tigers have had the MOST fun with the awesome projects we have been able to do because of all these incredible supplies!

We have more fun in store!  We’re looking for empty jelly/jam jars or baby food jars for a VERY special project next month.  Also we would love to collect the plastic top from your milk containers.  So when you’re done with these items we will recycle them into the BEST projects and learning tools!

Next Month celebrates the very special “Children’s Book Day”!!  Preschool 1 will be celebrating all month long.  There is a sign up for parents to come in and read to the class attached to the attendance sign in/out.  You can choose your child’s favorite book, your favorite book when you were a child, or read something new!  Pass the love of reading on to the children <3

Thank you parents for all you do everyday to make our class magnificent!

Community Helpers Visit BASE!

It had been a wonderful week and its only WEDNESDAY!!  On Tuesday our community Fire Fighters came to BASE and showed all the preschoolers the equipment that they wear in a fire.  They showed the children their boots, pants, hats and mask.  They explained to the children this is how they would look if they came to “help” in an event of a fire and they should not be scared.  They also told the children they NEVER EVER play hide and seek in a fire and always try to yell to the fire fighters to help them get located in case of an emergency.

The children had the opportunity to climb THROUGH the FIRE TRUCK!  The fire fighters caught them on the other side and helped them hop down.  Then each child was allowed to use the FIRE HOSE!!!!!  They were all excited and stood in line and took turns hosing down the parking lot.  The fire fighters were great and love the kids enthusiasm.  We have some preschool 1 kids who want to be fire fighters when they grow up!  So exciting!

On Wednesday we had a Nurse come to our classroom.  She was wonderful; she showed the kids her stethoscope, special bandages and a real X-Ray.  She told the children how washing hands, eating healthy foods and drinking milk will keep you healthy.  She told the kids that they shouldn’t be scared about going to the doctors, nurses and doctors are there to help.

We LOVE our community helpers!  Thank you Braintree Fire Department and Mrs. Frome!!

Picture
Mr. Valdez came to the preschool classroom Friday and talked about his community helper job.  Mr. Valdez is a mail carrier!  He brought his hard hat that he wears in the rain, his mail bag and pictures to show the children how a mail carrier does his job.  His mail bag carries 40 lbs of mail every day! WOOOW!!!!!  We could have fit one of the kids in there!  He also told the kids how each letter needs an address to get where it needs to go.  Even more incentive to continue to work on our addresses!! The kids enjoyed listening to Mr. Valdez and looking at his pictures.  The kids LOVED the coloring books he gave each of them.   Thanks Mr. Valdez!!!!

Sing a song of BUBBLES!!

Sing a song of bubbles, floating in the air,

Filled with lots of colors swirling here and there.

I love blowing bubbles, I don't want to stop,

What fun it is to catch one and watch it go POP, POP!

Giggles were guaranteed when our tigers got into our science project this week.  We talked to the kids about how
bubbles are formed.  The kids were interested in the “special liquid” that you can blow to form a bubble. We practiced blowing out gently and feeling air on our hand.  Then we mixed it up!  The kids measured out and counted how many cups of water, soap and corn syrup went into our beautiful bubble concoction.  Each child had their own bowl of homemade bubbles.  We experimented with different things we could blow bubbles with, strings and pipe cleaners worked great, but rolling up the kids sleeves and letting them figure out how to manipulate their fingers and hands to catch the liquid and blow the bubbles really got their giggles going.  We learned that bubbles are round and POP when we touch them or blow them too big.  Everyone had a great time blowing bubbles in the classroom!!

Picture
March is off to a wonderful start!   We had Officer Williams visit us on Monday.
He talked to the kids about safety and what a police officer does to keep the community safe.  Officer  Williams made the children each a coloring book showing the different “hats” a  police officer wears, and handed out special badge stickers!  Officer Williams explained to the kids how important it is to know their ADDRESS.  He explained what 911 is  for and IF they had to call in an emergency how knowing their address would get the police officers and help to their house faster.  He gave the kids incentive!!!!  He told the children if they memorized their addresses he would try to get the “police puppies” to visit and show the kids how keen the dogs sense of smell is and how they work for the police department. He will be checking back in a few months!! We will be working on our addresses until then.  :)

Here is a realy cute picture of the children making Thank You cards!

Health and nutrition month has come to an end.  The kids are still talking about what’s healthy food and what is “fun” food.  We are so proud of them for understanding what foods are good for you and what are “special snacks” that we only have occasionally.

The class made a “fun” snack together.  The kids were given gram crackers, Hershey kisses, and marshmallows!  Some of the friends took yummy bites right away!   Most of the kids assembled their smores and we popped them in the microwave.  Out came their gooey goodness!  It was fun to watch their faces become covered in smores.

For our healthy snack the kids mixed together plain Greek yogurt and a package of onion dip!  They dipped carrots and peppers into the dip for healthy afternoon snack.  Both snacks were a hit!  Healthy and fun!!

We’re excited for what’s coming up in March, in like a lion out like a lamb!!!

Picture
We have been working hard on our cutting skills!

Since September the Tigers have been developing their cutting skills.  We started by learning how to open and close the scissors by using the handles.

1. Index and middle fingers in the bottom hole.

2. Thumb in the smaller hole always facing up.

3. Use other fingers to support the outside of the scissors while cutting.

The kids now know how to hold the paper and use the scissors to cut on a LINE!!!  It is amazing how fast they are growing.

We encourage the kids to manipulate scissors and cutting different kinds of paper or play dough to strengthen hand muscles and coordination skills.  These are important for later skills such as writing.

If you want to practice with your child at home you can sing this little song to them: “Two in the bottom, one in the top, CHOP CHOP CHOP!!”  Have Fun!

Don't Worry ...Be Happy

I know , total bummer that the PATS did not win the superbowl...but look how much fun the kids had in their PATRIOTS gear! Friday was fun, now it is time to start a new week. Nick is our new star of the week, so check out all his info on the board outside our room! Also we are going to be busy doing LOTS of fun projects, and putting up new exciting bulletin boards!

If you are REALLY upset about the Pats losing, come in and spend 5 minutes with the kids...they will surely cheer you up :) (along with the 50 degree weather we are supposed to have today! ) Happy Monday everyone..

GET HEALTHY!!! FEBRUARY IS NUTRITION MONTH!

So Ms. Rosa, Ms. Maggie Cate and I have noticed that lunch and or meal (snack time) can be a hard time for the kids, because some of them are such picky eaters. We are there to tell them what they can and can not eat from their lunch box full of yummy foods, but we are there to encourage HEALTHY EATING AND what will give them "strong bones" to give them some incentive to eat the hearty part of their lunch first. Here are some really cool ideas to make food fun!
Make Food Fun! Picky eating is temporary and there are many things you can do to deal with picky eating in a positive way. One way is to make food fun!

Get creative in the kitchen:

  • Name a food your child helps create. Make a big deal of serving "Dawn's Salad" or "Peter's Sweet Potatoes" for dinner.
  • Cut a food into fun and easy shapes with cookie cutters.
  • Encourage your child to invent and help prepare new snacks or sandwiches. For example, make your own trail mixes from dry cereal and dried fruit.
  • Have your child make towers out of whole-grain crackers, spell words with pretzel sticks, or make funny faces on a plate using different types of fruit.
  • Jazz up the taste of vegetables with low-fat dressings or dips.  Try hummus or bean spread as a dip for veggies.
Choose smart, fun snacks and meals:

  • Bagel snake: Split mini bagels in half. Cut each half into half circles. Spread the halves with toppings like tuna salad, egg salad, or peanut butter. Decorate with sliced cherry tomatoes or banana slices. Arrange the half circles to form the body of a snake. Use olives or raisins for the eyes.
  • English muffin pizza: Top half an English muffin with tomato sauce, chopped veggies and low-fat mozzarella cheese. Heat until the cheese is melted.
  • Smiley sandwiches: Top a slice of bread with peanut butter and use an apple slice for a smile and raisins for eyes.
  •

  • Frozen bananas: Put a wooden stick into a peeled banana. Cut large bananas in half first. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze. Once frozen, peel off the plastic and enjoy.
  • Potato Pal: Top half a small baked potato with eyes, ears, and a smile. Try peas for eyes, a halved cherry tomato for a nose, and a low-fat cheese wedge as a smile. Be creative, you'll be surprised at how many foods can turn into eyes, noses, and smiles!
  • Frozen graham cracker sandwiches: Mix mashed bananas and peanut butter, spread between graham crackers and freeze.
  • Fruit smoothies: Blend fresh or frozen fruit with yogurt and milk or juice. Try 100% orange juice, low-fat yogurt, and frozen strawberries.
  • Frozen juice cups: Pour 100% fruit juice into small paper cups. Freeze. To serve, peel off the paper and eat.
  • Ants on a Log: Thinly spread peanut butter on narrow celery sticks. Top with a row of raisins or other diced dried fruit.

ugh 6 more weeks of WINTER...

Picture
Davidson painting with FROZEN paint!
Welp, I learned today that this cute groundhog we have been talking about in class, saw his cute shadow...but sad for us spring lovers, this means we WILL indeed have 6 more weeks of winter. We have been reading and learning a lot about the groundhog and explainning to the children what happens if the groundhog does see its shadow, versus if he doesn't!

We have a busy month, we will be learning alot about Nutrition, Dental Health and the letters R,H,and V. Yesterday (wednesday Feb.1st) we made Chinese Lanterns and we were amazed with the children's cutting skills! They are all progressing at a great speed, not to mention they are getting veeeery comfortable in the classroom :) . Please make note that we wil lbe having a small Valentine's Day "party" and plan to pass out valentines to our friends!

SUPER BOWL 46!!

Picture
WAHOOO! We are going to the superbowl! FRIDAY, February 3rd feel free to wear any and every Patriots gear you have! LETS GO PATS!

This is crazy weather!

Wow it is January, although somedays it has not felt that way! We were just talking about how it was about 55 degrees a week ago and now it is 15! That is also a reminder to dress warm because like we said before we will try and get outside as much as we can!

January brings a lot of fun and interesting projects and topics, we are learning about Arctic animals and still doing our "letters of the week." We just finished up letter P , while learning about letter P we made PUDDING, we covered letter "P" in POPCORN, we even grew our own PET in the classroom...come on in and check out our cool experiment!!

BELOW IS A REALLY CUTE POEM THAT I (ms. Rachel) FEEL ALL PARENTS SHOULD READ BECAUSE IT IS SO ADORABLE AND REALLY EXPLAINS ALOT ABOUT PRESCHOOL....

JUST PLAYING...
When I am building in the block room, please don't say I'm "just playing". For you see, I'm learning as I play, about balance and shapes. Who knows, I may be an architect someday.
When I'm getting all dressed up, setting the table, caring for the babies, don't get the idea I'm "just playing". For, you see, I'm learning as I play; I may be a mother or a father someday.
When you see me up to my elbows in paint or standing at an easel, or molding and shaping clay, please don't let me hear you say, "He is just playing". For, you see, I'm learning as I play. I'm expressing myself and being creative. I may be an artist or an inventor someday.
When you see me sitting in a chair "reading" to an imaginary audience, please don't laugh and think I'm "just playing". For, you see, I'm learning as I play. I may be a teacher someday.
When you see me combing the bushes for bugs, or packing my pockets with choice things I find, don't pass it off as "just play". For you see, I'm learning as I play. I may be a scientist someday.
When you see me engrossed in a puzzle or some "plaything" at my school, please don't feel the time is wasted in "play". For, you see, I'm learning as I play. I'm learning to solve problems and concentrate. I may be in business someday.
When you see me cooking or tasting foods, please don't think that because I enjoy it, it is "just play". I'm learning to follow direction and see differences. I may be a cook someday. When you see me learning to skip, hop, run and move my body, please don't say I'm "just playing". For, you see, I'm learning as I play. I'm learning how my body works. I may be a doctor, nurse or athlete someday.
When you ask me what I've done at school today, and I say, "I just played", please don't misunderstand me. For you see, I'm learning as I play. I'm learning to enjoy and be successful in my work. I'm preparing for tomorrow. Today, I am a child and my work is play. ~Anita Wadley

We can hardly believe that December is coming to an end!!  This month was filled with excitement of the Holidays.  The children all shared how they celebrate with their families.  We learned poem about Hanukkah and Christmas.  We had a great trip to SUNRISE where our class recited two poems and sang a song to the seniors.  They all loved meeting the little ones!  They did such a wonderful job that there is an article about them on the Braintree Patch!  Here is the link : http://patch.com/A-p9Wd.

Run Run as fast as you can you can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man!

December is here, and this month is going to be busy! We have a lot going on, we are talking about HIBERNATION and MIGRATION, along with trying to fit all of our holiday projects in as well. We'd like to extend the invitation that if anyone may celebrate a holiday that we may not be familiar with, to please feel free to let us know and we will be more than willing to learn and so whatever we can to incorperate your special holiday. Make note that we are learning about different animals that hibernate or migrate because of the cold weather and YES I SAID IT COLD WEATHER! Although we have ahd nice unusually warm weather thisis New England and we never know what will happen, your child does not want to be sick so please please please dress them accordingly and also make sure the change of clothes they have here at school is weather appropriate as well.  We also will most likely have a holiday "party" the friday before x-mas because the children are already super excited anyways. We can't wait to get more into December and see what awesome things we have in store! Happy Holidays :)

Also its getting pretty chilly outside so please dress your child according to the weather...also make sure they have a change of clothes that is weather appropriate. Have a great turkey day, be sure to ask your kids to sing some of the songs and poems we have been working on about thanksgiving!

Did you steal my MOO?

Farms, farmers markets, and farmstands. PHEW. We are talking about all things farm! In our dramatic play are we have been doing a fun farmers market, where the kids have been shopping for our variety of produce and other goodies. If you have anything you would like to bring in please don't hesitate! Oh and I'm not sure if you all remember Tuesday? But we made CHOCHOLATE SYRUP turkeys where your kids got to finger paint with chocolate syrup....HA! You should have seen them! We had a lot of brown mess mixed with a lot of licking and sticky gooey faces! They had a blast with this!...Two more days of letter F and then we "moooooo"ve on, have a happy Veteran's Day.
